The songs on this CD complement the book Rigodon… Fêtons! The song texts appear in the CD booklet as well as in the manuel. Many of the songs are responsorial so students can sing along. As well as being a teaching tool, the music can be enjoyed simply as a collection of seasonal songs.

The artists are professional folk musicians from well-known Québécois groups such as La Bottine Souriante and Matapat. Others are members of Mariposa In the Schools.

Gaston Bernard from Matapat sings several rarely-recorded songs such as The Buffalo Hunt and La Mi-Carême. The well-known Mon beau sapin, which accompanies Fêtons’ explanation of the first Christmas tree in Canada, has a refreshingly jazzy rhythm and À la claire fontaine is slightly bluesy. The driving vocals and dance tunes by members of La Bottine Souriante are as exciting as only La Bottine can make them. Bill Russell`s engaging Cajun songs are accompanied by a chorus of students. And although the hurdy gurdy (the unusual looking instrument on the CD cover) probably did not cross the Atlantic until long after the voyageurs and settlers, it is played on one piece as a reminder of the influence of France in the New World. The disk winds up with lively traditional tunes to make both the listeners and the “Ti-gigueux” want to dance!.

Les chansons sur ce disque compact sont un complément au manuel Rigodon…Fêtons! Les textes des chansons figurent dans le livret du disque compact ainsi que dans Fêtons. Bon nombre d’entre elles sont des chansons à répondre, de sorte que les élèves peuvent chanter en même temps. En plus d’être un outil d’apprentissage, la musique peut être écoutée simplement comme une collection de chansons.

Parmi les artistes, l’on retrouve des musiciens folkloriques professionnels de groupes Québécois bien connus comme La Bottine Souriante et Matapat. L’on y retrouve également des membres du programme Mariposa In The Schools.

Les chants par les membres de La Bottine Souriante sont entraînants comme seule La Bottine peut les rendre. Les chansons Cajun de Bill Russell sont accompagnées par un choeur d’élèves. Et, bien que la vielle à roue (l’instrument bizarre qui figure sur le CD) n’a probablement traversée l’Atlantique que bien après les voyageurs et les colons, on peut l’entendre dans une des pièces comme un rappel de l’influence de la France sur le Nouveau Monde. Les dernières pièces du disque sont des plus stimulantes et vous donneront autant le goût de danser que « Ti-jean », le bonhomme gigueux.
